Featured Artist: Daria Endresen
A photographer, model and digital artist, Daria Endresen was born in Norway and currently lives in Paris. Daria’s mesmerizing subjects are otherworldly – resembling aliens or victims from a prison camp. With shaved heads and pale, ghostly corpse-like flesh, they are often stretched and pulled at, with roots or strings as from a puppet or suture. Her beings struggle – pulling apart or together, robot like and sedated with implied emotions. They are strangely elegant, almost religious in their posture – suggesting spiritual acceptance of all life’s turmoil. Pain, love, strength, loss, growth and vulnerability emote from a dark beautiful surreal universe.
“In Norway there is a strong cult of high self-esteem. Kids are taught to love themselves from a very young age, and in my opinion it’s a good thing. On the other hand, the massive usage of photoshopped glamor pictures and general propaganda of “plastic” beauty pushes us to constantly compare. Everyone needs to know that they are loved and they are good enough, no matter what. And my message for all the girls out there would be this: Dream, believe in yourself and never give up.” - Daria Endresen
